Informal approaches to improving design quality in the built environment across Europe
This SURVEY is the start of the research phase of our work. It seeks to map the current design governance landscape of different states across Europe. It is also the start of our work networking key organisations with a role in the governance of urban design at European and global scales.
What we are looking for?
Informal (non-statutory) urban design governance approaches and tools. These might include peer-review mechanisms, design competitions, publication of guidance, architectural centres, education initiatives, successful partnerships, research by design, city architects, and so on. We are also interested in financial instruments that facilitate a focus on design quality.
All SURVEY participants will:
- become a part of a bigger community and will be invited to contribute to the forthcoming URBAN MAESTRO workshops in 2020
- get access to the results of the complete survey
We kindly invite you to participate in completing this Survey!*
Thank you in advance for your collaboration!

Urban Maestro is conducting a European-wide survey of the informal tools used in the governance of urban design. This is the first step towards the project’s objective of mapping out the ‘urban design governance landscapes’ of European states, and ultimately the continent as a whole.
